Congo Squares - cooking recipe
Ingredients

2 3/4 c. sifted flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. shortening
about 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 lb. brown sugar
3 eggs
1 c. nuts
1 pkg. Nestle chocolate or butterscotch chips
Preparation

Melt shortening and add brown sugar.
Stir until well mixed. Cool slightly and add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Sift flour with baking powder and salt and add to first mixture.
Add vanilla, then nuts and chocolate.
Spread in greased pan, 10 x 15-inch, and bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 minutes.
