Caramel Pie - cooking recipe

2 c. sugar, divided
3 Tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
3 eggs, separated
2 c. milk
3 Tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Rub 1 cup sugar in a heavy iron skillet; melt over low heat. Mix 1 cup sugar, flour and salt in a bowl.
Combine egg yolks and milk, mixing well.
Pour this into skillet with melted sugar; continue to stir constantly until smooth and thick.
Remove from heat; add butter and vanilla.
Pour into baked pie shell.
Top with meringue.
Bake until golden brown.
