Molasses Stack Cake By Aunt Bess - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2/3 c. shortening (can use lard or Crisco)
    2/3 c. molasses
    6 c. flour (all-purpose, not self-rising)
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. soda
    2/3 c. buttermilk
    2/3 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. ginger
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Cream together shortening, sugar and molasses.
    Add eggs, one at a time; beat well.
    Sift flour, spices, baking powder, soda and salt.
    Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk.
    Divide batter into 5 parts; put into well-greased 9-inch pans.
    Bake at 400\u00b0 until lightly browned.
    Spread each layer, except top, with apple mixture or applesauce.
