Marinated Vidalias - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 medium Vidalia onions
    1 c. water
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/4 c. white vinegar
    1 Tbsp. plus 1 tsp. mayo
    1 tsp. celery seed
    lettuce leaves
Preparation
    Slice onions and separate into rings.
    Combine water, sugar and vinegar.
    Stir until sugar dissolves.
    Pour over onion rings. Cover and chill at least 3 hours.
    Drain.
    Stir in mayo and celery seed.
    Serve on lettuce leaves.
