Ingredients

2 oz. red food color
3 Tbsp. instant hot cocoa mix
1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 1/4 c. flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda
pinch of salt
Preparation

Mix color and cocoa together.
Set aside.
Cream Crisco and sugar until light.
Add eggs, one at a time.
Add cocoa mixture to Crisco mix and beat until creamy.
Add buttermilk and flour alternately to cake mixture.
Mix well after adding salt and vanilla, then add vinegar and baking soda.
Mix by hand.
Pour into greased and floured pan.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 minutes.
