Basic Yeast Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. milk
    1/4 c. shortening
    1/4 c. sugar
    1 tsp. salt
    1 pkg. yeast
    1/4 c. warm water
    1 egg
    3 1/2 c. flour
Preparation
    Scald milk.
    Add shortening, sugar and salt.
    Mix to dissolve. Set aside to cool.
    Dissolve yeast with warm water.
    Beat egg and add to yeast mixture.
    Add milk mixture and flour.
    (You want dough to be stiff enough to work, but not too stiff.)
    Set aside for approximately 1 hour to rise.
    Note:
    Leave in bowl for first rising.
    After mixture has doubled in bulk, turn out on a floured surface and knead about 5 to 10 minutes, adding flour if necessary. Divide dough in half and shape into the type rolls you want.
