Bacon And Green Chili Cornbread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
    1/2 c. chopped green onions, sauteed in bacon drippings
    2 c. self-rising cornmeal
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. garlic powder
    1 1/4 c. plus 2 Tbsp. buttermilk
    2 eggs, slightly beaten
    1 (4 oz.) can chopped green chilies, undrained
    1 Tbsp. shortening
Preparation
    Combine cornmeal, salt and garlic powder.
    Add buttermilk and eggs; stir well.
    Stir in bacon, onions and chilies.
    Place shortening in 10-inch skillet.
    Bake at 400\u00b0 for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
    Great with soups!
