Fourteen Day Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. salt
    1 gal. water
    10 c. vinegar
    32 c. sliced cucumbers
    2 Tbsp. alum
    16 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. pickle spices (pouched)
Preparation
    Combine cucumbers (unpeeled), slat and 1 gallon water in a crock.
    Let stand covered for 1 week.
    Drain.
    Place back into crock and pour boiling water over to cover.
    Let stand 24 hours; drain.
    Place back into crock.
    Add alum and pour boiling water over to cover.
    Let stand 24 hours.
    Drain.
