Braided Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 3/4 to 3 c. flour
    1 pkg. active dry yeast
    3/4 c. water
    4 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    1 Tbsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 egg
    3/4 tsp. dried finely crushed herbs (oregano, basil, parsley, etc.)
    1/2 c. shredded Swiss cheese
    2 oz. dried beef, chopped
Preparation
    Combine 1 cup of flour and the yeast in a large bowl.
    Heat water, 2 tablespoons butter, sugar and salt in a pan until lukewarm and butter melts.
    Add this to the flour and yeast, along with the egg.
    Beat at low speed for 30 seconds, scraping sides of bowl constantly.
    Beat 3 minutes at high speed.
    By hand, stir in all the flour you can mix in with spoon.
    Knead enough of the remaining flour to make a moderately stiff dough that is smooth and elastic. Cover dough and let rest 10 minutes.
