Baking Powder Biscuits - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/3 c. shortening
    1 3/4 c. flour
    2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    3/4 c. milk (cold)
Preparation
    Heat oven to 450\u00b0.
Cut shortening into flour, baking powder and salt with pastry blender until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in just enough milk so dough leaves side of bowl and rounds up into a ball.
(Too much milk makes a sticky dough; not enough makes the biscuits dry.)
Turn dough onto lightly floured surface. Knead lightly 10 times.
    Roll 1/2 to 3/4-inch thick.
Cut with a floured biscuit cutter.
Place on greased cookie sheet about 1 inch apart for crusty sides, touching sides will be soft.
Tops can be brushed with melted butter.
Bake until golden brown, about 10 to 12 minutes.
    Remove from cookie sheet.
A two-inch cutter makes about one dozen biscuits.
The larger your cutter, the bigger the biscuit and the fewer also.
