3/4 lb. butter
1 c. powdered sugar
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 c. granulated sugar
Preparation

Cream softened butter and confectioners sugar together until light. Sift flour and salt together and add to butter/sugar mixture. Add vanilla and blend thoroughly. Gather dough in a bowl; wrap in wax paper and chill 4 to 6 hours. Roll out chilled dough to 5/8-inch thickness. Cut out cookies (hearts or shamrocks are nice). Sprinkle tops with granulated white or colored sugar. Place cutout cookies on ungreased cookie sheet and refrigerate for 45 minutes.
