1 c. sugar
2 Tbsp. shortening or margarine
2 eggs, beaten
4 c. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. milk
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. mace
Preparation

Cream shortening and sugar together; add eggs.
Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with milk.
Dough will be slightly stiff.
Refrigerate for several hours so that dough will be easier to handle.
Before rolling out, heat your oil to about 375\u00b0.
(I don't have an exact on this because Mama just always knew when it was hot enough by trying a donut hole.)
