Heavenly Pears - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 (29 oz.) can pear halves
    1/2 c. chopped almonds
    1 Tbsp. butter
    1/2 c. sugar
    1/4 tsp. almond extract
    6 chopped maraschino cherries
    1/2 c. sweet white wine (White Port does well)
Preparation
    Toast almonds and butter in microwave until lightly browned, stirring occasionally.
    Drain the pear halves and arrange in a circular dish with the large ends of the pears at the outer edge of the container.
    Mix almonds, sugar, almond extract and maraschino cherries.
    Spoon into the pear cavities.
    Put 1 teaspoon wine in each pear cavity and pour the rest into the baking dish.
    Microwave covered on High 4 minutes.
    Pears can be served hot or chilled. Serve 5 to 6.
