Grandma Elizabeth'S Date Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. dates
    2 tsp. baking soda
    1 Tbsp. margarine (butter)
    1 1/2 c. boiling water
    1 egg
    2 c. brown sugar
    3 c. flour
    1 c. chopped nuts (pecans)
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Chop dates and add boiling water, soda and butter.
    Let stand until cool.
    Beat egg; add sugar.
    Add cooled mixture, flour, nuts, salt and vanilla.
    Pour into 2 loaf pans.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 hour or until tested done.
