Three-Day Cucumber Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    7 lb. cucumbers, sliced
    2 c. lime
    2 oz. alum
    10 c. vinegar
    12 c. sugar
    spices to taste
Preparation
    Soak cucumbers in 2 gallons of lime water for 24 hours.
    Drain and rinse.
    Soak for 24 hours in 1 gallon alum water.
    Drain and wash twice in water.
    Combine vinegar, sugar and spices.
    Pour over cucumbers; let stand 3 hours.
    Place over low heat for 1 hour; do not boil.
    Pack in jars, cover with vinegar liquid and seal.
