Bread Custard - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    4 slices bread
    1/8 tsp. salt
    2 eggs
    2 c. milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    nutmeg
Preparation
    Put brown sugar in top of double boiler.
    Place well buttered bread slices on top of sugar.
    In a separate bowl, beat eggs.
    Add milk, salt and vanilla.
    Pour this custard over the bread, but do not stir.
    Steam for 1 1/2 hours and serve hot or cold.
