Layered Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    lettuce (medium head), torn in small pieces
    bell pepper, diced
    1 c. chopped celery
    1 c. chopped onion
    water chestnuts, chopped
    10 oz. frozen green peas
    2 1/4 oz. black olives, sliced
    2 c. mayonnaise
    2 Tbsp. sugar
    1 c. Cheddar cheese, shredded
    real bacon bits
Preparation
    Layer first 7 ingredients as listed in glass 9 x 12-inch dish. Mix mayonnaise and sugar.
    Carefully spread mayonnaise mixture over lettuce.
    Sprinkle cheese and bacon bits on top.
    Cover tightly and refrigerate.
    Serves 10 to 12.
