Ice Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. cucumbers
    1 c. salt
    2 Tbsp. alum
    vinegar
    pickling spice
    9 c. sugar
Preparation
    To cucumbers, add salt and cover with water.
    Let it stand for 4 days.
    Drain and rinse 3 times.
    Add alum, cover with water and let stand 24 hours.
    Drain and rinse 3 times, cover with vinegar and let stand for 10 days.
    Drain and add pickling spice and 3 cups sugar.
    Add 3 cups sugar the next day and 3 more the next day after.
    Heat and pack in jars, if desired.
    Will keep just covered in the cabinet.
