Canned Apple Pie Filling - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 1/2 c. sugar
    1 c. cornstarch
    2 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
    1 tsp. salt
    3 tsp. lemon juice
    5 1/2 to 6 lb. tart apples
    10 c. water
Preparation
    Peel, core and slice apples in large saucepan.
    Blend first 5 ingredients.
    Stir in 10 cups water.
    Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly.
    Add lemon juice.
    Put apples in hot canning jars, leaving 1-inch headspace.
    Use spatula to fill with hot syrup and help distribute syrup.
    Adjust lid.
    Process in boiling water.
    Pints 15 minutes, quarts 20 minutes.
    Makes 6 quarts. Store in cool place.
    Bake at 400\u00b0 for 50 minutes.
