Ingredients

1/4 c. butter or margarine
1/4 c. shortening
1/3 c. granulated sugar
1/3 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 1/3 c. sifted flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c. chopped nuts
Preparation

Melt butter and shortening.
Add sugars.
Mix well.
Add egg. Beat until light colored.
Sift together flour and baking soda. Stir in shortening mixture.
Add flour, vanilla and nuts.
Shape in rolls 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
Roll in waxed paper.
Chill thoroughly.
Bake on ungreased cookie sheet in moderate oven at 375\u00b0 for 10 minutes.
Makes 4 dozen cookies.
