Ingredients

1/4 c. buttermilk
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped pecans
1 can candied cherries, cut in fourths
1 c. brown sugar (packed)
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1 c. cut up dates
Preparation

Mix well the shortening, brown sugar, eggs and buttermilk. Sift together dry ingredients and add to mixture.
Mix in pecans, dates and cherries.
Chill dough for 1 hour.
Drop by teaspoon 2-inches apart onto lightly greased cookie sheet.
Top each cookie with pecan half or half cherry.
Bake 10 to 15 minutes at 375\u00b0. If you use self-rising flour, omit baking powder and salt.
