Four Day Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 gal. cucumbers
1/4 c. salt
1 gal. water
4 tsp. alum
1 qt. cider vinegar
6 qt. sugar
1/2 box pickling spices
Preparation

Thinly slice one gallon cucumbers.
Place in large crock or nonmetal container.
In separate pan, bring to boil one gallon water and salt.
Pour over cucumbers.
Weigh cucumbers down (i.e. cover with a plate turned upside-down and anchor with any clean heavy object to prevent floating).
Leave for 4 days.
