Corn Bread(From Charlotte Lewis' Aunt Emma) - cooking recipe

1/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1 egg
1 c. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. flour
1/2 c. cornmeal
4 tsp. baking powder
pinch of salt
Preparation

Preheat oven to 375\u00b0.
Mix sugar and shortening.
Add the egg. Sift the dry ingredients together.
Add the buttermilk alternately with the sifted dry ingredients to the sugar and shortening mixture.
Grease and flour an 8-inch pan.
Pour the batter in the pan.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes to 1/2 hour, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
