Mom'S Chili Sauce - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 qt. ripe tomatoes
    1 qt. onions, chopped
    1 qt. apples or applesauce
    2 1/2 c. vinegar
    4 c. sugar (half brown)
    1 Tbsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. cloves
    1 tsp. allspice
    2 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Scald and peel tomatoes; let set in kettle until settled. Pour off excess water.
    Add all other ingredients.
    Boil until thick and bottle.
    Optional:
    1 or 2 sweet red peppers, chopped.
