Mama'S Date Loaf - cooking recipe
Ingredients

3 c. sugar
1 stick oleo
1 (13 oz.) can evaporated milk
2 c. chopped dates, packed firmly
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pure vanilla
2 c. pecans, chopped
Preparation

Note:
For best results, use heavy saucepan.
Mix sugar, margarine and milk together.
Place over medium heat until dissolved, stirring constantly.
Bring to boil; add chopped dates. Continue to cook until soft ball is formed when small amount is dropped in cold water.
Remove from heat and beat until it begins to pile.
Add salt, vanilla and pecans.
Shape by hand into a roll 2 1/2 to 3-inches in diameter.
Wrap in wet towel which has been wrung out well.
Allow to stand until cool.
Cut in 1/4-inch slices.
Do not refrigerate.
Cut as needed.
Wrap to store. Yields about 3 dozen.
