Waldorf Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    1 Tbsp. vinegar
    1 tsp. baking soda
    2 oz. red food color
    2 Tbsp. cocoa
    2 1/4 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Add vinegar to soda.
    Cream shortening, sugar and eggs.
    Make paste of food color and cocoa, then add buttermilk alternately (also paste with flour and salt, add vinegar and soda, then vanilla).
    Do not beat hard, just blend.
    Bake 30 minutes at 350\u00b0 in two 9-inch layer pans.
    When cool, split each layer, making 4 layers.
