Pease Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. dry split peas
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    2 c. water
    4 Tbsp. butter
    garlic or onion powder (optional)
Preparation
    Wash peas thoroughly.
    Bring water to a boil and drop peas in. Reduce heat and simmer until peas can be mashed easily (about 1 hour).
    Remove from heat and mash well to a puree.
    Return peas to the pan and add salt, butter and seasoning, stirring constantly.
    Transfer to a serving dish.
    Serve warm.
