Ingredients

1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
2 egg yolks
1 lb. chopped dates
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. boiling water
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 beaten egg whites
Preparation

Beat together butter, sugar and egg yolks.
Mix dates and nuts.
Pour water over soda, dates and nuts.
Let cool.
Add flour, baking powder, salt, and vanilla and mix all ingredients together well.
Fold in beaten egg whites.
Pour in oiled and floured pan.
Bake for 45 minutes at 325\u00b0.
Serve with whipped cream.
