Hamburger Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. hamburger
    1/2 onion, chopped
    3 c. potatoes, diced
    2 c. carrots, diced
    1 c. cabbage, shredded
    2 small bay leaves
    1/4 tsp. thyme
    1/4 tsp. basil
    salt and pepper to taste
    3 chicken bouillon cubes
    48 oz. can V-8 juice
    6 c. water
Preparation
    Brown hamburger and onion in skillet.
    In large pot, combine hamburger and onion and remaining ingredients.
    Bring to boil. Sprinkle rice or barley over top and simmer until vegetables are tender.
