Wassail Bowl - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. 8 oz. sugar
    2 1/2 qt. water
    1/2 Tbsp. cloves (whole)
    10 cinnamon sticks
    10 allspice berries
    5 Tbsp. crystallized ginger, chopped
    2 qt. orange juice, strained
    1 1/4 qt. lemon juice, strained
    5 qt. apple cider
Preparation
    Mix sugar, water and spices.
    Boil 10 minutes.
    Cover and let stand 1 hour in a warm place.
    Strain.
    When ready to serve, add juice and cider.
    Heat quickly to boiling point.
    Pour over crab apples or small oranges, studded with cloves, in a punch bowl.
