Date Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sugar
    1 c. hot milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 pkg. dates
    1 c. nuts or salted parched peanuts
    1 Tbsp. butter
Preparation
    Boil sugar, milk and dates until a soft ball forms in cold water.
    Remove from stove. Cool to lukewarm. Add vanilla, butter and nuts.
    Beat until firm enough to form in a roll about 1 or 2-inches in diameter.
    Roll closely in a clean wet cloth.
    Let remain until cold. Remove from cloth.
    Cut with sharp knife into slices 1/4 to 1/2-inch thick.
