Crisp Sweet Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 lb. small cucumbers
    2 c. hydrated lime
    8 c. sugar
    1 Tbsp. whole cloves
    2 gal. water
    2 qt. vinegar
    1 tsp. celery seed
    1 Tbsp. mixed pickling spices
Preparation
    Cut cucumbers crosswise.
    Dissolve lime in water.
    Pour over cucumbers.
    Let stand 24 hours and pour off.
    Rinse thoroughly in fresh water.
    Let stand in fresh water three hours.
    Drain.
    Mix sugar, vinegar and spices.
    Add enough water to cover; let set overnight, then boil gently 30 to 40 minutes.
    Pack in jars and seal.
