Ingredients

1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. flour
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Grease three 9-inch cake pans, then cut wax paper to fit bottom.
Cream butter and sugar, then add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add salt and vanilla.
Stir soda into buttermilk.
Add 1/2 cup flour and 1/2 cup buttermilk, continuing until all is used, being sure to end with flour.
Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 30 minutes or until cake tests done.
Cool to lukewarm and spread filling between layers and on top.
