Candied Apples - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    17 medium size, red skinned apples
    3 c. sugar
    1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
    2/3 c. water
    1 tsp. lemon juice
    15 whole cloves
    1 to 2 tsp. red food coloring
Preparation
    Boil mixture until it forms a hard crackling in water (candy thermometer reaches 300\u00b0).
    Do not stir after sugar is dissolved. Dip apples in mixture.
    Place apples on buttered plate.
