Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Combine shortening and sugars.
Add egg and beat well.
Add vanilla and nuts; beat.
Add sifted dry ingredients gradually; mix well.
Shape into 1 1/2-inch rolls.
Wrap in wax paper.
Chill several hours or overnight.
Slice thin.
Bake in a hot 425\u00b0 oven for about 10 minutes.
Yields 4 dozen cookies.
