Iced Green Tomato Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    7 lb. sliced green tomatoes
    2 gal. cold water
    3 c. garden lime
    1 tsp. salt
    5 lb. sugar
    3 pt. vinegar
    1 tsp. ground cloves
    1 tsp. ground ginger
    1 tsp. ground allspice
    1 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1 tsp. celery seed
Preparation
    Soak thickly sliced tomatoes in lime water (thoroughly dissolve powdered lime in cold water) for 24 hours.
    Drain and soak 4 hours in clear cold water, changing water every hour. Drain.
    Place in kettle the vinegar, sugar and spices. Bring to a rolling boil and pour over tomatoes. Let stand overnight.
    In the morning, boil 1 hour and seal in containers.
    Use crock or large bowl for soaking.
