Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. cucumbers
    1 gal. onions
    3/4 c. salt
    6 c. sugar
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1 tsp. cloves
    1 tsp. allspice
    2 1/2 qt. vinegar
Preparation
    Slice cucumbers and onions in large pan.
    Pour salt over this. Let soak 1 1/2 hours.
    Mix and soak 1 1/2 hours longer.
    Drain and add to boiling vinegar mixture.
    Mix remainder of ingredients. Add pickles and onions; heat and put in jars.
    Cover with hot juice and seal lids.
