Candy Cane Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter or margarine, softened
    2 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. confectioners sugar
    2 Tbsp. water
    2 1/2 c. sifted flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 c. quick oats (Mother's or Quaker; uncooked)
Preparation
    Heat oven to slow (325\u00b0).
    Beat butter and vanilla until creamy.
    Add sugar gradually.
    Beat until fluffy.
    Add water. Sift together flour and salt.
    Add to butter mixture, mixing thoroughly.
    Stir in oats until blended.
    (Dough will be quite stiff.)
    Shape into candy canes.
    Place on ungreased cookie sheets.
    Bake in
    preheated 325\u00b0 oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
    Cool. Frost canes with thin white confectioners sugar frosting.
    Stripe with thick red frosting.
    Makes 24 canes.
