Fruit Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. seedless raisins
    1 1/2 c. cut up dates
    2 c. sugar
    2 c. boiling water
    5 Tbsp. shortening
    1 1/2 c. candied cherries
    2 c. chopped walnuts
    3 c. flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. cloves
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    1 tsp. salt
Preparation
    Simmer the first 5 ingredients until sugar dissolves, then cool.
    Add the cherries and walnuts.
    Sift together the flour, baking soda, cloves, cinnamon and salt. Add flour mixture to cooled fruit.
    Mix well and pour into greased and floured pans. Bake at 325\u00b0 for 1 1/2 hours or until cake tests done.
    Should make 2 cakes.
