Ingredients

1 c. brown sugar, packed
3/4 c. melted butter
1 3/4 c. flour, sifted and measured
1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. raw oats
3 c. dates (big box)
1/2 c. sugar
enough water to moisten
Preparation

Cream margarine and sugar; sift flour, soda and salt and add together (this is awfully thick).
Add oats and work in with hands to a thick mixture.
Divide in half.
Use 13 x 9-inch pan.
Rub pan with shortening.
Crumble 1/2 evenly over pan, then pat down. Next, cut up real fine dates and mix with sugar and enough water to moisten.
Cook this over fire until thick; let cool.
Spread dates evenly over mixture, then crumble rest over top.
