Kosher Dill Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    20 to 25 cucumbers (pickling size)
    1/8 tsp. alum
    1 clove garlic
    2 heads dill
    1 qt. vinegar
    1 c. non-iodized salt
    3 qt. water
    1 hot red pepper (optional)
Preparation
    Pack sterilized quart jars with cucumbers.
    Add to each jar alum, garlic, dill and red pepper.
    Combine and boil vinegar, 1 cup salt and water.
    Fill hot jars and seal.
