Manhattan Clam Chowder - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 cans minced clams with liquid
    1 lb. fresh carrots, chopped
    1 lb. fresh celery, chopped
    1 Bermuda onion, chopped
    1 large can tomato puree
    4 tsp. oil (preferably olive)
    salt, pepper and thyme
    8 large potatoes, diced
Preparation
    Place first 6 ingredients and seasonings in a large pot.
    Add water until pot is 2/3 full. Over medium heat, cook until celery and carrots are almost soft, about 20 minutes.
    Add potatoes* and continue cooking about 15 to 20 minutes.
