Roman Holiday - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. chopped onion
    1/2 c. bacon fryings or oleo
    2 lb. ground beef
    4 c. cooked spaghetti or noodles
    2 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 c. mushrooms (optional)
    3 c. canned tomatoes (or 1 large can)
    1 1/2 c. grated cheese
Preparation
    Lightly brown onions in fat in a large skillet; add hamburger and cook until browned.
    Add tomatoes, salt and pepper.
    Have Dutch oven ready; add a layer of spaghetti, then add the meat mixture and layer of cheese.
    Repeat layers and top with cheese and bread crumbs.
    Dot with oleo.
    Cover and cook at 300\u00b0 for 35 minutes.
    Uncover and bake an additional 10 minutes.
    Serves 12 to 15.
