Date Roll - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 pkg. dates, chopped
    3 c. sugar
    1 c. whole milk
    2 c. chopped pecans
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Mix milk and sugar.
    Cook until forms a soft ball in cold water.
    Add dates.
    Cook until almost hard ball when dropped in cold water.
    Stir to keep dates from sticking to bottom.
    Remove from heat.
    Beat until almost cool.
    Add nuts and vanilla.
    Pour on a cold cloth that has been rung out of cold water.
    Knead into a roll 1 1/2-inches thick.
    Slice when it is hard.
