Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 qt. sliced cucumbers
    6 onions, sliced
    1/3 c. salt
    5 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
    3 c. vinegar
Preparation
    Cover cucumbers and onions with salt and ice.
    Mix and let stand 3 hours.
    Drain.
    Combine remaining ingredients.
    Add cucumbers and onions.
    Heat to a boil and seal in jars.
    Yield:
    8 pints.
