Great Strawberry Shortcake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 box yellow cake mix
    1 qt. strawberries
    3/4 c. sugar
    2 containers Cool Whip
Preparation
    Make cake per directions in 2 layers.
    When layers are cool, punch holes in both layers with a 2-prong fork.
    Leave 4 strawberries whole; cut remaining berries into 4ths or 8ths; add sugar and a little water to mix well.
    Spread 1/2 strawberries over bottom layer; add top layer cake and spread the remaining cut up strawberries over top layer.
    Beat thawed Cool Whip with mixer until it can be spread over entire cake.
    Garnish top with 4 whole strawberries that have been cut into halves.
    Refrigerate cake.
