Ingredients

1 c. molasses or sorghum
1 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
4 tsp. baking soda
3 beaten eggs
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
pinch of salt
5 c. flour
Preparation

Combine molasses, sugar and shortening in 4-quart saucepan; heat to boil.
Stir in baking soda.
Remove from heat and let cool.
Pour into large mixing bowl and add beaten eggs, cinnamon, ginger and salt.
Beat well with mixer and gradually add sifted flour to make a workable dough.
Cover with wax paper and cool in refrigerator for one hour or more.
