Ingredients

1 1/2 c. shortening (3/4 c.)
2 c. sugar (1 c.)
1/2 c. molasses (1/4 c.)
2 eggs (1)
4 tsp. baking soda (2 tsp.)
4 c. flour (2 c.)
1 tsp. cloves (1/2 tsp.)
1 tsp. ginger (1/2 tsp.)
2 tsp. cinnamon (1 tsp.)
1 tsp. salt (1/2 tsp.)
Preparation

Melt shortening in a large kettle or saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat; let cool.
Add sugar, molasses and eggs; beat well.
Stir together the flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and salt; add to first mixture.
Mix well and chill.
Form balls; roll in sugar (granulated) and place on cookie sheet.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 8 to 10 minutes.
Recipe may be halved.
