Ingredients

1 1/4 c. sugar
1 c. shortening (part butter)
1 egg, well beaten
1 c. molasses (prefer the light molasses)
1 1/2 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. soda, softened in 3 Tbsp. hot water
1/4 tsp. vinegar
1/4 tsp. salt
approximately 4 1/2 c. flour
Preparation

Mix all ingredients well and chill several hours before rolling out. Cut and sprinkle with sugar before baking. Bake in a moderate 375\u00b0 oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
