Boiled Cake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 c. cold water
3 c. raisins
4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves (I use 1/2 tsp.)
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped nuts
Preparation

Boil shortening, sugar, cold water and raisins for 10 minutes. Cool thoroughly.
Sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt.
Add to cooled mixture.
Mix thoroughly.
Bake at 325\u00b0 for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Use a cake tester for doneness. Bake in a well-greased and floured tube pan.
One cup chopped nuts may be added.
